NFC technology opens very large new markets for developers targeting both the consumer and business spaces. Nearly a billion NFC tags are already deployed worldwide and ABI research has predicted that by 2011 more than 30% of cellular handsets—some 450 million units—will incorporate NFC capabilities that will be used not only for payments at points of sale and remotely, but also to access information from ‘smart objects.’
Applications that enable simple but powerful user experiences and interaction possibilities initiated by "touching" (coming close) with NFC devices to tagged objects or with other NFC devices is the focus of this event.
Presentations and exhibits will explore some of the top NFC application areas including:
- Smart transactions using card emulation for payment and ticketing
- Accessing digital content, for example touching a smart poster with an NFC-enabled mobile phone
- Peer-to-peer communication between NFC devices, including the wide variety of applications ranging from simple business card exchanges to Bluetooth/WLAN set-ups to reading data from other devices
The Summit will bring together manufacturers and application developers ready to realize NFC's potential and will highlight the following:
- Payment/ticketing and other applications
- What the devices can do today and will do in the future
- What you need to know about NFC technology
- How to develop NFC applications
